Jeanne LeFevre
Oil & Watercolor Landscapes
Jeanne LeFevre was born in Fresno, California and raised in Fresno and San Diego. She received her BFA degree from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and continued her studies at Otis/Parsons School of Design, Los Angeles. After over twenty years as an advertising art director she now concentrates on painting. Influenced by Paul Cezanne, Gabrielle Munter and Nicolai Fechin, Jeanne fills her strong, expressive canvases with rich, textured surfaces in oil.
Ms. LeFevre is drawn by the color and pattern of the expansive New Mexico landscape where every view is a striking composition. Another favorite site is Torrey Pines, a small, rugged preserve near San Diego that she has visited regularly since childhood.
"I try to explore the extraordinary richness of color and texture available from the oil medium. In addition, the freshness and clarity of watercolor are well suited to capturing the atmosphere and character of the landscape, especially when working in the field. I want to bring some of the power and spirit of the desert and mountains to viewers in the city."
"I used to be somewhat confused by working in two mediums. But now I find a lot of crossover; I frequently use watercolor technique in my oils. For instance, by starting oils with diluted paint which runs and drips somewhat like watercolor, I begin the development of texture and patina which expresses the water and erosion so evident in the Southwestern landscape."
